National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) Celebrates 4th Anniversary

ILSC, Puspitek Serpong, December 10, 2023 – The National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) is proud to announce the celebration of its 4th anniversary, which will be held on December 10, 2024, at the Indonesian Life Science Center (ILSC), Bogor Regency, West Java. The event, themed "NBRI Innovation in Powering Indonesia’s Battery Revolution," is expected to be a significant milestone for battery technology development in Indonesia. The event will be opened by Prof. Evvy Kartini and Prof. Alan Drew, Founders and Co-Founders of NBR, and will be attended by partners from the industrial, governmental, and academic sectors.

The National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) stands as an independent center of excellence in Indonesia, focusing on battery innovation and renewable energy. The institute is committed to supporting research, training, and education in the field of electrochemical energy storage technology and renewable energy, to strengthen research capacity and enhance the domestic training ecosystem. As a collaborative platform, NBRI bridges researchers, academics, industry partners, government, and other stakeholders who share the same vision in the development of battery technology. NBRI's primary vision is to drive Indonesia’s energy independence by utilizing local resources for the development of the national battery industry.

Through its mission, NBRI seeks to integrate all stakeholders in battery research and production, establish a solid national research institution, and strengthen the visibility of battery research at the government level. With this approach, NBRI aims to contribute significantly to making Indonesia a key player in the global energy industry.

NBRI Achievements:

This anniversary event is not only a celebration of the journey and achievements of the National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) but also underscores the institute’s commitment to strengthening collaboration and innovation. With the primary goal of showcasing NBRI's significant impact on the battery ecosystem in Indonesia and globally, this event marks an important milestone in NBRI's journey. Over the past four years, NBRI has recorded various outstanding achievements in research and development (R&D innovation), skills training, and battery testing standardization. As a key player in the electrification of the transportation sector and sustainable energy solutions in Indonesia, NBRI has obtained 4 patents, published 116 papers, and been involved in 26 projects and 64 consultations. In its efforts to improve workforce skills, NBRI has organized 36 training sessions with a total of 862 participants from 205 industries and institutions. These participants took part in 88 high-quality activities to deepen their knowledge of battery technology, achieving a satisfaction rate of 4.72 out of 5. NBRI also plays a role as a facilitator of collaboration through the implementation of various international events. Seven international conferences organized by NBRI have featured 299 speakers and 1,105 participants from 256 institutions in 29 countries. One of NBRI’s greatest achievements is hosting the first International Battery Summit (IBS) in Indonesia, which attracted 487 participants, 72 speakers, and 296 stakeholders from 20 countries. NBRI's commitment to innovation is also reflected in its competition for students, which gathered 91 teams from 31 universities and 22 different departments across five innovation competitions. Through these initiatives, NBRI continues to demonstrate its strategic role in advancing battery technology and creating a sustainable energy future in Indonesia.

Collaborations with Partners:

Through cooperation with leading partners, the National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) has created a dynamic ecosystem that blends academic research, industry collaboration, and international cooperation. This initiative covers the entire battery supply chain, from upstream to downstream, reflecting NBRI’s commitment to global collaboration to support the use of battery technology, particularly in renewable energy and transportation electrification. As part of this event, NBRI will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT. Treesse Progetti Indonesia, Relith, Shanghai Metal Market, Diponegoro University, and BINUS ASO School of Engineering. This signing marks a strategic step to strengthen the electric vehicle ecosystem, especially in the battery sector. The agreement affirms the joint commitment to collaborate in battery technology research and development (R&D innovation) and human resource development, as part of efforts to accelerate the transformation to sustainable energy in Indonesia.

Networking:

This anniversary celebration is a strategic moment for the National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) to strengthen its relationships with stakeholders who have contributed to the institute's success. Through partnerships with government agencies, the industrial sector, and the academic community, NBRI continues to promote collaboration aimed at accelerating sustainable change. This step is crucial in achieving stronger and more competitive national energy resilience.
