The Vision of National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)

The future of nation depends on the quality of human resources followed by invention wave. Though every country has unique modal, government needs to accelerate through various innovation incubator. According to Presidential decree number 74/2019, Indonesia has National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) as non-ministerial government institution under the president, directly, in charge of research and technology. Dr. Laksana Tri Handoko shared the new vision of BRIN, as chairman perspective, in his opening remark and plenary session of the International Conference on Battery for Renewable Energy and Electric Vehicles (ICB-REV) 2021 on June 22nd, 2021. There are three directions and seven targets of BRIN. Integrating research and innovation (human, infrastructure, budget) resources, creating and open (inclusive) and collaborative "global standard" research ecosystem, and creating the foundation of a strong and sustained research and innovation based economy.

Seven targets of BRIN are as follows; (1) Integrating major governmental research institution, (2) Transforming business process and research management to increase the critical mass of research and innovation resources, (3) Refocusing the research program to increase the value added of natural resources and local (bio, geo, art and culture) diversity, (4) Making Indonesia as a global platform for natural resources and local diversity based research, (5) Facilitating and being the enabler for national industries and business players to conduct R&D based product development, (6) Providing a platform for talented human resources in any research fields entrepreneurs based, (7) Increasing direct economical impact from any research activities and turning the research and innovation sector into a long term investment destination. Also, the role of integration between stakeholdres is needed to synergy the program, minimizing overlapping, refocusing the program, and improving infrastructure.
